Everyone benefits from going bush, young people especially. The opportunities for personal and social growth that result from traveling in a small, independent group in pursuit of a challenging goal are enormous. In the bush we have to push and discipline ourselves, as well as learn to cooperate with others. Living in the bush is a powerful metaphor, a parallel if you like, for everyday life. The things we learn about working together, trying your best and learning from your mistakes, achieving something really worthwhile with a group of people can all be taken back into our everyday lives. Our school's outdoor education program involves every student in the school (as well as the majority of staff) in a yearly expedition to some remote and special place in the Far North.

Principles that underpin why expeditions are run:

  • Travel into the outdoors is challenging by its nature
  • Participation in community work provides focus and satisfaction
  • Expeditions provide a valuable contribution to our society

  • We believe that expeditions:

  • Create opportunities for challenge, growth and development
  • Have a significant and beneficial impacts for participants
  • Deliver improvements in personal, social and environmental attitudes
  • Give us a new found enthusiasm for taking on challenges
  • Act as positive role models for others in their community and finally,
  • That expeditions provide a unique and positive contribution to our society
